Frequently Asked Questions

I'm new to D&D can I still play here?

Of course, but do note that our combats are very challenging

Why are these encounters so hard?

TRB is built heavily on encouraging tactical combat play and collaboration. Most encounters are winnable but they likely expect a higher level of tactical thinking and synergy than what you're used to. If the GM hints to it being dangerous, it likely is.

How can I get intros/games for my characters?

First off check our calendar for upcoming games. If there are no sessions, simply post on our discord on the ''Looking-for-group'' channel the level of session you are looking for and your availabilities. GMs are more likely to run sessions if they see enough interest for them. Please don't be frustrated if the session doesn't get picked up right away, our staff tries their best to run sessions for different level ranges at times that are also convenient for them. Sooner or later one will surely pop up especially if there's a clear interest in it.

At what times are games usually ran?

Sessions usually start at around 5-8pm GMT/ 10am-1pm EST and usually last for 5-6 hours.

Most of our active players are in American and European regions so we try to keep a good balance and compromise. Most sessions start early for America's time but end late for European's time. Still, since we have GMs in both America and Europe, any time can be arranged.

How do I sign up on the calendar?

After opening the calendar, simply look for the day the session was announced for. Then follow the tutorial bellow! There's no need to login or create an account.

You can also change the time zone to better fit yours so you know the exact time for where you live. Look at the top right corner on the website and follow the images bellow:

How do I level up?

GM will be tracking experience by adding it to your character here once you complete your first intro. You will be notified when you level up.

How many games do I need to level up?

Completely depends on the level you are in. Intros give at least 10 mxp, so commoners can get to level one on their first session. After that, low-level sessions range from 8-12mxp approximately. You can find how much mxp is needed per level here.

When do I get talents?

At level 0, all characters start with 1 talent. Every time your proficiency modifier increases (Levels 1,5,9,13, and 17) you get another free talent. When you get an ASI, you may convert one or both of the ability score increases to talent points if you wish. Variant humans gain an additional talent point at start.

Why do I need silver tokens to unlock races?

In TRB we care a lot about keeping the settings integrity. This system helps reflect the rarity of certain races in our low fantasy Westmarch.

Players can use their tokens to unlock races that are not commonly found in the starting area (Acroshia). This may come with draw backs as most Acroshian citizens are not found of monstrous races. Players are expected to have a some knowledge of the in game consequences before playing them.

This system adds an extra layer of immersion to the game as most of the character will reflect the most population on the setting.

How do I get silver tokens?

Players can earn silver tokens if they meet the following requirments:

  • Show creativity in or out of combat.

  • Display great commitment to their character, even if it puts them at a disadvantage or increases the risk of dying.

  • Promote inclusion by involving less prominent characters in the story and roleplay.

  • Demonstrate growth in their play through improved mechanics or roleplay.

  • Excel in voice, character acting, and description.

Usually around 2-3 silver tokens are awarded per session.

How can I do downtime activities?

We have a bot to make it easy on our discord channel! All you have to do is post what activity you intend  in 🕛-archive-and-downtime. Simply type "?h" in the downtime channel, and it will show you the right format for whatever activity you intend to do. After that a GM will roll what is needed or command the bot to do so. Your reward will be posted as an answer to your message and the GM will make the appropriate changes to the timeline. Here is an example:

How does timeline work?

Timeline places your character on a spawn day. You can then advance your character by doing downtime. At the beginning of each session all characters will advance to the same day, which is the day of the character furthest a head into. Your character may therefore be pushed into the future and accumulate downtime as a result that can be spent on downtime activities. Pushing too far however, may lead to other players kicking you out as each month has a maximum day to advance to and levelling must happen before downtime is spent. You can keep track of your characters timeline here.

How does reputation work?

Reputation is earned by exceeding certain DCs when doing the Work downtime, the higher the reputation the higher the DC. Portion or all reputation can be burned in exchange for a favor from the faction you got reputation with, the higher the rep you burn the more the service may be worth. Table in regards to exact reputation value can be seen in here.

What can I buy & how can I buy it?

You can buy any common item without requiring downtime by simply stating the order in 💲-transactions (discord) and have a GM approve it. Uncommon and higher rarity items takes downtime days and requires the downtime activity Find Magical Item. For those a request in 🕛-archive-and-downtime is required in addition to 💲-transactions.

Can I use D&D Beyond?

As said in the introduction we use roll20 to play and your character sheet needs to be set there in order to get into games. Characters from previous games or made on a utility like D&D Beyond won't work.
